Sharon Gless keeps the distinction of being the last contract player signed by Universal Studios in 1969. She appeared on “McCloud’ and also guest starred on some short lived series before getting the season role as secretary Holly Barrett on the drama series ‘Faraday and Company’ for NBC. She appeared on two ABC made for TV movies ‘All My Darling Daughters’ and ‘My Darling Daughters Anniversary’. In 1972, she guest starred on an episode of ABC’s ‘Marcus Welby, MD” and became the permanent part on the show playing Nurse Kathleen Faverty. She achieved the degree of stardom as Maggie on the popular crime series ‘Switch’ (1975-78). In 1979, she starred on NBC’s ‘Turnabout’ and on CBS’s House calls. During that period, she was also starring in ‘Centennial’ and ‘The Last Convertible’, and ‘as Carol Lombard in “Moviola: The Scarlett O’Hara War”. In 1982, she replaced Meg Foster as Christine Cagney in CBS drama ‘Cagney & Lacey’. She remained on the show until the cancellation of the series in 1988 and won two Emmy Awards for her role. In 1990-1992, she joined another CBS series ‘The Trails of Rosie O’Neill’
Sharon has twice performed on the London stage, first in an adaptation of Stephen King’s “Misery” 1992 and later opposite Tom Conti in Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two” 1996.
Her most recent role was on Showtimes 2000 original series “Queer As Folk” where she played Debbie Novatny. “Queer As Folk” brought Sharon back into the spotlight again and gave her a more diverse fan base. She appeared on ‘Burn Notice’ as Madeline Weston who is the mother of hero, Michael Westen and is unaware of his son’s profession.
