In this episode of the season we met, Michael Westen, a secret operations agent, working for the US Government. As of then, he was in Nigeria, looking into the depths of a case and received a burn notice, very suddenly and surprisingly. And, he was next seen in Miami, Florida, his home town. Life got to its worst for Michael, as all his bank accounts had been frozen and he was left with no contacts. In order to get things back on track, he tried to contact his now-former case officer, handler and friend, Dan Siebels and also his best friend Sam Axe. While trying to dodge the FBI personnel who had been shadowing him, Michael unwillingly also got in touch with his mother, Madeline Westen, who had no knowledge about the career of his son. When Michael is finally able to contact Siebels, he is told that the burn notice has been issued to prepare him for another job and also that if he leaves Miami, he would be killed.
In the first episode of the season, Michael took the case of an estate caretaker, who was accused of stealing pieces of art worth millions from his boss.
